About CYP

In early 2007 a group of Cantabrian young professionals came together with the idea of forming New Zealand's first young professional society dedicated to the cross-pollination of various industry sectors. The need stemmed from a long history of a very well known Cantabrian trait, that networking groups are notoriously hard to break into unless you went to school here. Furthermore, they recognized the demand to have a platform in which young professionals could develop their networking and business skills, for their ongoing professional development.

Since its inception and original launch party in August 2007, CYP has grown in size to over 500 members and gained support from its four professional sponsors, ASB, Anderson Lloyd Lawyers, Beca and BDO Spicers. CYP has also been lucky enough to secure the valuable partnership of the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM). CYP has run more than a year of social events including the CYP Ball, Cocktail Party, Birthday and Christmas events along with a few smaller business focused events, and in late 2008, ran its first major business event in association with NZIM.

In the coming year, the CYP committee has planned a number of social and business events to keep the CYP membership involved in the young professional networking and business development scene. Knowing through experience what works, a collection of exciting social events ranging from full scale parties to quiet and informal end of month drinks have been planned, and this has been matched to a much more structured, action packed business event schedule which should see many opportunities for our members to develop their skills, or mix and mingle with Christchurch’s top business-people.
